Muddy Pumpkin Farms

Lyman County

Owners/Operators:
The Werner Family:
Mark, Matt, Brett, Wyatt, Hal, and LeAnn

Founded in 2010 and built on a heritage of four generations of watermelon growers, Muddy Pumpkin Farms is located above the meeting place of the White and Missouri Rivers near Oacoma, South Dakota. While the Werners’ specialty is melons (producing more than 100 varieties), they also grow heirloom vegetables, berries, and herbs.

Muddy Pumpkin’s mission is “to provide fresh produce to South Dakota, full of nutrition but free of chemicals, in order to strengthen and remake the vital connections between our diet and health, our land and labor, our food and community.” To further this goal, Muddy Pumpkin is currently transitioning to organic certification.

Muddy Pumpkin provides products to CSAs, schools, restaurants, food banks, and farmers markets throughout South Dakota.
